What Is Replay Trading?

A historical chart is easy to read after the move is finished. Replay trading removes that advantage. The market clock moves forward, new price action appears, and you have to decide before you know the answer.

01

Choose a session

Select a stock, a historical date, and the point in the session where you want to begin.

02

Start the replay

Play, pause, or step through the market while the chart builds from real historical data.

03

Place the trade

Go long or short using market or limit orders, then manage your size, stop, and target.

04

Review the decision

Study the entry, exit, and result on the chart. Then replay another session and do it again.

A session you can work through

Practice the Part Charts Cannot Show You

Looking back at a finished chart shows where the best entry was. It does not show whether you would have recognized it, waited for confirmation, honored your stop, or held through the next pullback.

Replay puts those decisions back in order. Practice breakouts, pullbacks, reversals, momentum, position sizing, and trade management with $100,000 in virtual buying power. The core simulator is free at 1× speed; Pro adds slower and faster speeds for close study or quicker repetitions.

Replay Trading vs. Live Paper Trading

Both let you trade with virtual money. The difference is the clock. Replay trading uses a past session, so you can practice whenever you want and repeat the same kind of setup across different days. Live paper trading follows the current market and moves only when the market is open.

Replay is useful for focused repetition. Live paper trading is useful for practicing your routine in real time. Neither can fully reproduce slippage, fees, fills, or the emotional pressure of trading real money, and simulated results do not guarantee live results.

Common questions

Replay Trading FAQ

What is replay trading?

Replay trading lets you trade a recorded market session as though it were happening now. Future price action stays hidden while you make simulated decisions with virtual funds.

Can I use replay trading for free?

Yes. Simul8or’s core replay simulator is free at 1× speed and does not require an account. Optional Pro features add slower and faster replay speeds.

Is replay trading the same as paper trading?

They are related but not identical. Replay trading uses a past market session, while live paper trading follows current market prices. Both use virtual money instead of real capital.

Does replay trading use real market data?

Yes. Simul8or rebuilds supported historical sessions from real market data, allowing you to practice on price movement that actually occurred.
